The Jagiellonian University is the oldest university in Poland and one of the oldest in Europe. It was founded in 1364 by the Polish king Casimir the Great. Today, the university in Krakow has 15 faculties, including three medical ones. This internationally recognized academic institution educates approximately 50 thousand students per year, including people from many, not only European countries.

The university, like other public institutions and commercial companies must conduct periodic stocktakings. In the case of the Jagiellonian University the stocktaking is a substantial challenge because hundreds of thousands of objects are subject to inventory.

In order to improve the listing process of the university’s property, its authorities decided to implement the solution proposed by SKK company which consist of the Honeywell Dolphin 6100 terminals and SKK Smart application.

Continuous Stock-Taking Department, Jagiellonian University
SKK consultants adapted the programme to the individual needs of our university in a short time. Thanks to the solution implemented by SKK, the stock-taking process runs more efficient and takes less time.

Honeywell Dolphin 6100 mobile computer is a smart and reliable device equipped with a scanner that reads two-dimensional (2D) and standard one-dimensional (1D) bar codes and allows reading bar codes with any orientation, as well as creating photographic documentation. There are displayed the messages on the screen of scanner which indicate the irregularities during the inventory. Its additional advantage is the ability of conducting several inventories at the same time (for several units).

The terminal enables data exchange with the university management system (SAP) within the entire area covered by the wireless network (all units of the Jagiellonian University). In addition, the user is guaranteed safe data storage (securities in non-volatile memory or on removable media).

The integrated radio with 802.11 b/g standard provides the users a communications with the information system of the university and access to necessary data while ensuring high security of transmission.

SKK Smart is an easy-to-implement software designed for mobile computers equipped with barcode readers (e.g. Dolphin 6100). The application allows to document the inventory by registering barcodes that are labeled items and objects. Thanks to that, working with the application eliminates the need for laborious documentation of operations with the use of paper lists. SKK Smart was integrated with the university’s SAP and cooperates with it on the basis of data exchange.
